I am a Korean artist who been immersed in art my entire life. Growing up under the artistic influence of my father, a Western style painter in South Korea.
My work is rooted in the intricate artistry and spirituality of Oriental painting. I use traditional materials such as Jangji (Oriental painting paper made from the skin of the Brussonetia Kazinoki tree), Bunchae (pigments mixed with pine soil), and Seokchae (stone-based mental pigments). These materials require a delicate balance of paint and traditional adhesive glue to create layered textures and expressive depth. The aesthetics of "empty space", a fundamental concept in Oriental art, plays a vital role in my work, allowing viewers to engage with the emotions within the painting in their own way.
I have chosen "Portrait Expressionism" as my primary style, using the human and animal figure to explore emotions often left unspoken. My work captures the raw and complex feelings of alienation, sorrow, and hope, depicting the deep emotional struggles we all experience. I believe that even within pain, there is beauty -an honest reflection of our shared humanity. Backgrounds and animal imagery often accompany my figures, amplifying the emotional narrative within each piece.
Observing and translating emotions into art is both exhausting and fulfilling, but it is a lifelong pursuit. My work, collectively titled "Finding the Lost Emotions", is my way of reconnecting with the feelings we sometimes suppress or overlook. I hope my paintings resonate with you and stir something within your soul!
